Oswego, NY

Oswego is a city located in Oswego County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 27,912. It is part of the Syracuse metropolitan area.

The city was founded in 1796 by General Philip Schuyler as a military post and trading center on the Oswego River. The first settler arrived in 1798 and Oswego became an important transportation hub for trade between the Finger Lakes region and upstate New York. In 1824, Oswego became a village within the Town of DeWitt. In 1847 it was chartered as a town and in 1886 it became an independent city.

Oswego is home to SUNY Oswego, one of America's leading public universities with over 10,000 students from all 50 states and more than 120 countries. The campus spans over 235 acres (9 km2) with more than 30 buildings on campus including: Alumni Hall (1892), Library (1910), Student Union Building (1927), Science Complex (2000) and Recreation Center (2004).
