Fleetwood is a small town located in Johnston County, North Carolina. The population of Fleetwood was 2,811 as of the 2010 census. The town is located on the eastern edge of Johnston County and is bordered by the towns of Smithfield and Goldsboro to the north, east, and south, respectively.
The history of Fleetwood can be traced back to 1792 when General John Rutherford established a plantation there. In 1810, James Hogg purchased Rutherford's plantation and renamed it "Hogg Plantation." In 1816, Hogg sold his plantation to William Alexander Graham who renamed it " Graham Plantation." Graham Plantation remained in the Graham family until 1922 when it was sold to J.C. Penney Company. Penney Company operated the plantation until 1954 when it was sold to an agricultural company called Carolina Farms Incorporated (CFI). CFI continued to operate the plantation until 1988 when it was sold to RJR Nabisco Holdings Corporation (RJR Nabisco). RJR Nabisco operated Fleetwood Plantation until 2002 when it was sold to Pinnacle West Capital Corporation ( Pinnacle West). Pinnacle West continues to operate Fleetwood Plantation today.
