Swannanoa is a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. It is located about an hour north of Asheville, and about an hour south of Charlotte. The population is just over 2,000 people.
The town was founded in 1875 by J.D. Swannanoa and his wife, Martha. They named the town after their son, Swannanoa (or Swan-an-oah), who had died in infancy. The town was originally built as a summer resort for wealthy Northerners who wanted to escape the heat of the city. It quickly became a popular tourist destination, and by 1900 it had become a permanent community with several businesses and churches.
Today, Swannanoa is still a popular tourist destination, but it has also developed into a small town with its own economy and culture. There are several businesses that cater to tourists, including restaurants, hotels, shops, and galleries. The town also has its own library and post office (which are both open year-round). There are several parks that offer hiking trails and picnicking areas, as well as a ski area just outside of town that offers skiing in wintertime (and snowboarding in summertime).
The real estate market in Swannanoa is very competitive; homes here typically sell within two weeks of being listed on the market. Prices range from around $100K to $1 million+, but most homes here sell for around $150K to $250K+. The main reason why prices are so high here is because there are not many homes available for sale; according to the 2010 census there were only 96 housing units available for sale within Swannanoa itself! This means that even if you don't have any money yourself you can still probably afford to buy a home in this town – provided you're willing to wait awhile for your turn at auction!
