Nelsonville, OH

Nelsonville is a small town located in Nelson County, Ohio. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Nelson County.

The town was founded in 1811 by James and Nancy ( Powell) Nelson. The first settler in the area was Ebenezer Sabin, who arrived in 1798. The town's name is derived from General Horatio Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

The economy of Nelsonville is based largely on agriculture and manufacturing. Major employers include the Nelsons' Dairy Farm, which produces raw milk for local consumption; J&L Metals, a manufacturer of metals products; and K&M Manufacturing, which makes agricultural equipment and supplies. There are also several small businesses that provide services to local residents.

Nelsonville has two schools: Nelsonville-York Elementary School and Nelsonville-York Jr./Sr.-High School (formerly known as York High School). Both schools are accredited by the Ohio Department of Education. In addition to its public schools, Nelsonville has a branch library operated by the Friends of the Library organization.

Nelsonville is home to a number of attractions including Heritage Park Museum (which features exhibits on local history), Mill Creek Falls State Park (a popular spot for hiking and picnicking), and Historic Downtown Nelsonville (which features restored buildings from throughout the town's history).
