Rocky River, OH

Rocky River is a city located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 27,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland- Akron- Canton Combined Statistical Area.

Rocky River was founded in 1814 by Ebenezer and Asahel Rocky. Ebenezer Rocky had come to America from England in 1798 and settled in Connecticut before moving to what would become Rocky River. He purchased land near the present day intersection of State Route 224 and County Road 527 (then known as "The Corners") and built a sawmill on the site. The mill supplied lumber for construction of homes and businesses throughout Northeast Ohio during the early 1800s.

In 1815, Asahel Rocky moved his family to what would become Rocky River from New York state. He purchased land near Ebenezer's mill site and began building homes and businesses of his own. In 1817, he erected a gristmill on the banks of Crooked Creek which became one of the town's most important economic engines for more than 150 years.

By 1830, there were enough people living in what would become Rocky River to form a village called "The Corners". The name was changed to " Rocky River" in 1835 when it was incorporated as a town with 100 residents.

Today, Rocky River is home to several businesses including two major grocery stores (Safeway/Vons and Kroger), numerous restaurants, two banks (First National Bank & Trust Company and KeyBank), three pharmacies (CVS/Pharmacy #1, Rite Aid/Pharmacy #2, Walgreens), two hardware stores (Home Depot & Menard's), an optometrist office (Optometry Plus) as well as several other small businesses that support local shopping needs such as hair salons & spas, jewelers & watchmakers etc...
