Union City is a city located in Stark County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 21,811. It is part of the Canton- Massillon metropolitan area.
Union City was founded in 1836 and was originally called " West Union". The city was named for the union of two towns: East Union and West Union. The first settler in Union City was Jesse Root. The town's economy initially relied on agriculture and manufacturing, but later became more diversified with businesses such as insurance and banking. In 1892, a streetcar line connected Union City with nearby Massillon. This helped spur growth in the city and led to increased development along its main streets.
Today, Union City is home to several major employers including Procter & Gamble and Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company. The city also has a number of cultural attractions including the Stark County Historical Museum and Art Gallery as well as the Memorial Park Zoo which features an elephant exhibit. There are also several parks located within the city limits including Memorial Park and North Park which offer residents opportunities to enjoy nature while also being close to amenities such as shopping and restaurants
