West Chester, OH

West Chester is a city located in Chester County, Ohio, United States. The population was 30,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Chester County. West Chester was founded in 1798 by General Anthony Wayne and named for his friend and patron, William West, 3rd Baron De La Warr.

West Chester is home to the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football team as well as the National Football League's Cleveland Browns training camp site. The city also has a number of professional sports teams including the Philadelphia Phillies' Double-A affiliate Reading Phillies (in Reading), the Columbus Blue Jackets' AHL affiliate Springfield Falcons (in Columbus), and two minor league baseball teams: the Class A Lakewood BlueClaws (in Lakewood) and Class AA Akron RubberDucks (in Akron).

The city's economy is based on healthcare, education, retail sales and professional services. Manufacturing has declined in recent years but still contributes to about 10% of GDP. In 2006, West Chester was designated as a "Smart City" by Smart Growth America. This designation recognizes that West Chester has implemented successful strategies for land use planning and economic development that have led to increased livability and quality of life for its citizens.
