Oklahoma is a state located in the South Central region of the United States. The state’s name is derived from the Choctaw words okla and humma, meaning “red people” or “people of the red earth.” Oklahoma was admitted to the Union on November 16, 1907. The state has an area of 711,751 square miles and a population of 3,959,913 as of July 1, 2010.
