Canonsburg is a borough in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Johnstown, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The borough was settled in 1786 and incorporated in 1811. Canonsburg is named for Canon Andrew Hamilton, an early settler who donated land for the town's first church and cemetery. The town grew rapidly as a result of its location on the Pittsburgh- Johnstown Turnpike (now U.S. Route 22). Canonsburg became known as "the Paris of the West" because of its many elegant Victorian homes and churches built during that time period.
Today, Canonsburg remains a prosperous borough with many historic buildings and businesses still operating. The downtown area has been extensively renovated and now features several restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and other businesses along with several restored Victorian homes that are open to the public for tours. There are also several parks located throughout the borough which offer residents and visitors plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature while also enjoying all that Canonsburg has to offer.
