Newmanstown is situated in northeastern Lehigh County, just south of Easton and north of Allentown. The town is bordered by the townships of Upper Saucon to the east, Lower Saucon to the south, and Northampton to the west. The history of Newmanstown can be traced back to 1740 when German settlers established a community called Newmansville near present-day Easton. In 1812, Newmansville was renamed Newmanstown after Judge John Witherspoon Newman (1751-1836), an American Revolutionary War hero who served as president pro tempore (the third ranking officer)of the United States Senate from 1789 until his death. Judge Newman was also one of Pennsylvania's first U.S Senators; he represented the state at various times during the Revolution, served as secretary of war under President George Washington, and later became a judge on Pennsylvania's Supreme Court system.

In 1854, railroad tracks were laid through what would become Newmanstown; this led to an influx of new residents and businesses into town. By 1900, there were approximately 1,000 residents living in Newmanstown; by 1950 that number had increased to 3,500 people. Today there are approximately 2,800 residents living in Newmanstown; over 60%of whom are employed within town limits while 30% commute into Easton or Bethlehem for work each day."
