Shamokin is a borough in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,922 at the 2010 census. It is part of the HarrisburgCarlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The borough was settled in 1792 by Nicholas and John Shamokin and named for them. The Shamokin Valley Railroad was built through the borough in 1875 and helped spur development. A post office has been in operation at Shamokin since 1892.

The borough's economy is based on agriculture, coal mining, and manufacturing. Coal mining ceased operations in the area in the early 1990s; however, there are plans to revive this industry as part of the Marcellus Shale gas boom. Manufacturing includes a plastics plant operated by Jabil Circuit Inc., which employs about 350 people. There are also several small businesses located in Shamokin including a bakery, a pizzeria/deli, an ice cream shop, and a car dealership/repair shop.

Public education is provided by the Shamokin Area School District which includes three schools: Shamokin Elementary School (grades K-5), Shamokin Middle School (6-8), and Shamokin High School (9-12). Students from surrounding towns attend these schools as well as students from other parts of Northumberland County who have transportation arrangements made through their home school districts or with private transportation companies that serve rural areas throughout Northumberland County
