Union City, PA

Union City is a borough in Union County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 10,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre– Hazleton metropolitan area.

The borough was founded in 1868 and named for the city of Union, New Jersey. The borough's original boundaries included what are now parts of Hazleton and Dunmore. In 1895, the borough annexed land from Hazleton Township to its north and east. In 1922, it annexed land from Dunmore Township to its south and west.

As of the census of 2000, there were 11,527 people, 4,914 households, and 3,362 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,711 people per square mile (1,099/km²). There were 5,233 housing units at an average density of 1123 per square mile (440/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 97% White,[2] 1% African American,[3] 0% Native American,[4] 1% Asian,[5] 0% Pacific Islander,[6] 0% from other races,[7] and 1% from two or more races.[8] Hispanic or Latino residents made up 2%.
