Garland, TX

Garland is a city located in Dallas County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 139,521. Garland is part of the Dallas– Fort Worth– Arlington metropolitan area.

The city was founded in 1891 and named for Judge Roy Bean of San Antonio. The first settlers were farmers who arrived to irrigate the land with water from Lake Texoma. Garland's economy was based on agriculture until 1939 when it became a center for aircraft manufacturing with companies such as Boeing and Douglas Aircraft Company locating there. The city's aerospace industry declined in the 1970s and 1980s but has since rebounded with new businesses such as Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and Northrop Grumman Corporation having plants in Garland.

Today, Garland is home to several large corporations including ExxonMobil Corporation (formerly Mobil Oil), AT&T Inc., American Airlines Group (formerly American Airlines System), Southwest Airlines Co., Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, and Northrop Grumman Corporation among others. The city also has a growing technology sector with companies such as Intel Corporation, Dell Inc., Oracle Corporation, Microsoft Corp., Symantec Corporation, and Google Inc. having regional headquarters or major operations within its boundaries
