Hobson is a small town located in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. Hobson is home to the Hobson Independent School District and the Hobson Community Center.

The town of Hobson was founded in 1892 by John and Martha (Dixon) Hobson. The town was named for Judge Rufus B. Hobson, who served as Williamson County's first judge. The original plat for the town of Hobson was filed on November 8, 1892 with 160 acres of land being granted to John and Martha (Dixon) Hobson for $1 per acre. In 1893, a post office was established in the town and it became known as " Hobsonville". In 1895, a railroad line was built through the town and it became known as "The Junction". The name " Hobson" was adopted in 1898 when the post office changed its name to " Hobsonville".

In 1906, a school district was established in the town and it became known as "The Hobson Independent School District". In 1917, a fire destroyed much of downtown Hobson. Reconstruction began immediately with new businesses opening soon after including a bank, grocery store, meat market, drugstore and several other businesses. By 1921 there were over 100 businesses in downtown HobSONville including two movie theaters; one operated by Paramount Pictures Corporation and one operated by Fox Film Corporation

On October 1st 1956 voters approved incorporation of The Town of hobSONVILLE becoming an independent municipality from The City of hobSONVILLE . On March 1st 1957 voters elected their first Mayor Pro Tem - Cletus Hargrave - who would serve until 1961 when he ran for Mayor against incumbent Roy Lakin Roy Lakin won re-election but resigned less than two years later after being charged with embezzlement from his own business On May 14th 1959 voters elected Rufus B “Red” Dixon as Mayor replacing Roy Lakin who had resigned due to health reasons . Red Dixon served until January 3rd 1965 when he died suddenly while still serving his term . After Red Dixon’s death Council appointed Jody Wooten to serve out his term until elections could be held . Jody Wooten would go onto serve two terms as mayor before retiring from politics altogether . On November 3rd 1965 voters elected Donnie Davenport to serve out Red Dixon’s unexpired term ending January 3rd 1967 . Donnie Davenport would go onto serve four terms as mayor before retiring from politics altogether in 1988
