Irving, TX

Irving is a city located in Dallas County, Texas, United States. According to the 2010 census, the city had a population of 183,719. It is the fourth most populous city in the Dallas– Fort Worth metroplex and ninth most populous city in Texas. The city was founded by John W. Hogg and James L. Alcorn on July 8, 1892 as an agricultural community named Alcorn after their friend and former Confederate General James L. Alcorn. The town was renamed Irving after Washington Irving when it incorporated on January 16, 1903.

Irving is home to the world headquarters of PepsiCo Inc., as well as several other major corporations such as ExxonMobil Corporation and JBS USA LLC (formerly Swift & Company). In addition to its corporate presence, Irving is also home to several universities including The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), Southern Methodist University (SMU), and The University of North Texas (UNT). These universities have helped make Irving one of the most educated cities in Texas.
