Killeen is a city located in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 102,593 as of the 2010 census. Killeen is the principal city of the Killeen– Temple– Fort Hood metropolitan area which had a population of 269,591 as of the 2010 census.

The city was founded in 1881 and named for General Sam Houston. It served as headquarters for General George Custer during the Civil War and became an important railroad center in Central Texas. Killeen played an important role in World War II when it became one of the largest manufacturing centers for military equipment in America.
