Mansfield is a city located in Williamson County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 49,848. Mansfield is the fourth most populous city in Texas and the largest in Williamson County. The city is home to Baylor University and its medical center.

The first settlers arrived in what is now Mansfield around 1836. The town was founded by John W. Martin and named for his home town of Mansfield, England. The settlement grew slowly at first; it did not become an official town until 1853. In 1871, Mansfield became the county seat of Williamson County after a contest between two towns – Georgetown and Round Rock – resulted in Georgetown's withdrawal from contention.

Mansfield's growth accelerated after World War II as Baylor University began to expand rapidly. Today, Mansfield is home to several large businesses and has become one of the major economic centers in Williamson County. The city has also made significant investments in its infrastructure; recent projects include a new police department headquarters and a new municipal court building.
