Pettus is a small town in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Pettus is located in the Dallas- Fort Worth metroplex and is adjacent to Plano.

The town of Pettus was founded in 1892 by J.M. Pettus and his brother-in-law, W.H. Halsell. The town was named for General James Pettiison, a hero of the Mexican–American War who had died earlier that year. The original plat for the town was filed on October 9, 1892 with 160 acres designated for residential development and an additional 640 acres set aside for commercial development (including a railroad depot).

In 1895, Pettus became home to the first automobile dealership west of St Louis, Missouri; this dealership would eventually become GMAC Insurance Company (now GEICO). In 1907, Pettus became home to what would become one of the largest meatpacking plants in North America; this plant would eventually be acquired by Tyson Foods in 2001.

Today, Pettus remains a small town with a rich history and continues to serve as an important business and cultural center within Williamson County.
