Powderly, TX

Powderly is a small town located in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin- Round Rock metropolitan area.

The town was founded in 1881 by William and Jesse Powderly. The Powderlys were early settlers in Williamson County and played an important role in its development. They operated a general store and post office in the town until 1907, when they sold their business to Loyd Wright. Wright continued to operate the store until his death in 1948.

In 1906, Powderly became home to the first school district in Williamson County. The school was originally housed in a one-room building on Main Street. In 1922, a two-story brick schoolhouse was built on North Main Street and served as the district's primary facility until 1978, when it was replaced by a new building on South Main Street. The old schoolhouse now serves as the town hall and library.

Today, Powderly is still an important community with many businesses and services available to its residents. The town has two churches - First Baptist Church and United Methodist Church - as well as several businesses including Ace Hardware, J&J Tire & Auto Service, True Value Hardware, and Walmart Supercenter . There are also several restaurants located within the town limits including Denny's Restaurant , Longhorn Steakhouse , Pizza Hut , Wendy's , Sonic Drive-In , Subway , Taco Bell , KFC , and Starbucks .
