Texline is a small town located in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 2,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin- Round Rock metropolitan area.

The town was founded in 1887 by Charles W. and Sarah A. ( Porter) Williamson and named for the Texline Railroad that ran through it. The railroad was later abandoned and the town's economy shifted to agriculture and ranching until oil production began in 1901. Texline became an oil boomtown, with thousands of workers arriving to work in the fields and on the rigs. In 1907, Texline had a population of 10,000 people; by 1930 it had reached 30,000 people. However, the Great Depression caused many businesses to close down and by 1940 only 5,000 people remained in Texline.

However, during World War II there was a large influx of military personnel who were stationed nearby at Fort Hood; this led to a revival of the town's economy as new businesses opened up to serve them. By 1950 there were 50 businesses in Texline; by 1970 there were over 200 businesses and 1,500 residents. However, during the 1980s oil prices declined and many companies closed down; by 1990 only 350 residents remained in Texline.

Today there are still some businesses based in Texline – including a hospital – but most of its economy revolves around tourism related to nearby attractions such as Lake Travis or Zilker Park (the city's largest park). There is also some manufacturing activity related to tourism – for example making souvenirs or selling T-shirts – but this is not significant compared to other parts of Texas or the United States overall..

In recent years there has been discussion about whether or not Texline should be annexed into Austin due to its declining population; however so far this has not happened..
