Hayward, WI

Hayward is a city located in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 31,811 at the 2010 census. Hayward is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area.

Hayward was first settled in 1835 and incorporated as a village in 1853. It became a city in 1906. The city's economy has been based on manufacturing and agriculture until recent years when it has become more diversified with businesses such as health care, technology, and finance. Manufacturing now makes up only about one-third of Hayward's economy while services make up the majority at over two-thirds of the total economic output.

The city is home to three major employers: Kimberly- Clark Corporation (a Fortune 500 company), Menomonee Falls Brewery ( Wisconsin's largest craft brewery), and Cardinal Health (the nation's largest Catholic health system). Other major employers include Haywardsmiths Plastics (formerly known as Haywards Plastics Europe) which manufactures plastic products for packaging; Jabil Circuit Inc., which produces electronic components; and Ameriprise Financial Inc., one of the world's largest financial services companies with over $200 billion in assets under management globally.

Hayward is also home to several colleges and universities including Marquette University, Lawrence University, Concordia University Wisconsin, Saint Norbert College, and Point Loma Nazarene University.

The City of Hayward operates its own utilities including water treatment facilities operated by the City Water Utility Division; wastewater treatment facilities operated by the City Wastewater Utility Division; street lighting systems operated by Street Lighting Services; public works operations managed by Public Works Department; parks operated by Parks & Recreation Department; police department operations managed by Police Department Operations Bureau; recycling center operated by Waste Management Authority; building permit processing for all construction within city limits through Building Permits Bureau ; code enforcement for all building violations through Code Enforcement Bureau ; planning & development services through Planning & Development Services Bureau ; community development block grant program administered through Community Development Block Grant Program Office ; cemetery administered through Cemetery Board .

According to Forbes magazine, Hayward ranks No. 9 on its list of "America's Best Places To Live" in 2018 with an overall score of 97 out of 100 possible points based on measures such as job growth rate (+2%), median household income ($76,021), percentage below poverty line (-5%), crime rate (-1%) ,and quality of life index (+10%). In 2017 Kiplinger’s Personal Finance ranked Hayward No 4th best place to retire nationwide due to its low cost of living index at 99 out 100 points along with excellent healthcare options rated #1 nationally among medium sized cities according to UHS Healthcare rankings .
