Hayward is a city located in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 31,811 at the 2010 census. Hayward is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area.
Hayward was first settled in 1835 and incorporated as a village in 1853. It became a city in 1906. The city's economy has been based on manufacturing and agriculture until recent years when it has become more diversified with businesses such as health care, technology, and finance. Manufacturing now makes up only about one-third of Hayward's economy while services make up the majority at over two-thirds of the total economic output.
The city is home to three major employers: Kimberly- Clark Corporation (a Fortune 500 company), Menomonee Falls Brewery ( Wisconsin's largest craft brewery), and Cardinal Health (the nation's largest Catholic health system). Other major employers include Haywardsmiths Plastics (formerly known as Haywards Plastics Europe) which manufactures plastic products for packaging; Jabil Circuit Inc., which produces electronic components; and Ameriprise Financial Inc., one of the world's largest financial services companies with over $200 billion in assets under management globally.
