Hillsboro, WI

Hillsboro is a small town located in southeastern Wisconsin. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. Hillsboro is located in Washington County and is bordered by the city of Madison to the north, Verona to the east, and Middleton to the south.

The history of Hillsboro can be traced back to 1836 when James and Nancy ( Dodge) Brown settled on a tract of land northeast of present-day Hillsboro. The town was officially platted in 1859 and named for Dr. Hiram Hills, a prominent resident of Madison who donated land for a public square. The first business in Hillsboro was a general store operated by Moses Dodge.

Today, Hillsboro is home to several businesses including two banks (the First National Bank of Hillsboro and Peoples State Bank), two restaurants (Pizza Hut and Subway), three gas stations, two hardware stores, an ice cream shop, two barbershops, four hair salons, three dry cleaners/laundromats, one pharmacy/drugstore (CVS), one law office (Keller Law Offices), one real estate office (ReMax Properties), one salon/spa (Salon Nouveau), one fitness center (Fitness First USA), as well as several other small businesses. There are also several churches in town including Grace Lutheran Church and Holy Family Catholic Church.

Hillsboro is served by the Washington County School District which provides elementary school students with instruction from kindergarten through eighth grade while high school students attend schools in nearby Madison or Middleton. There are no colleges or universities located within Hillsborough but nearby campuses include UW- Madison and UW- Milwaukee.
