Spooner, WI

Spooner is a small town located in the northeast corner of Wisconsin. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wausau metropolitan area.

The economy of Spooner is based largely on agriculture and manufacturing. The town has a few small businesses, but its largest employer is General Mills, which operates a large flour mill in town. Other major employers include Kohler Co., which manufactures plumbing fixtures and hardware; and JBS USA, which operates a meatpacking plant in town. There are also several smaller businesses that provide services to these larger companies.

Real estate in Spooner is mainly residential, with modest commercial development along US Highway 11 and County Road A. There are a few small apartments and single-family homes available for purchase or rent, but most housing consists of farms and ranches that have been subdivided into smaller lots over the years. There is no zoning in Spooner, so any type of property can be bought or rented.

Spooner residents are generally happy with their community and its amenities. The schools are rated highly by parents, and there are plenty of things to do in the area: fishing at Lake Michigan; hiking trails throughout the county; shopping at local stores; going to concerts or plays at nearby Wausau; or spending time at one of the many lakes within driving distance (including Eagle Lake, Blue Mound Lake, Chain O'Lakes State Park).
