Hidalgo, New Mexico: A Real Estate Investor's Dream Come True

Hidalgo is a city in Hidalgo County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,976 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hidalgo County.

Hidalgo was founded in 1891 as a stop on the St. Louis, El Paso and Pacific Railroad (now the Union Pacific Railroad). It was named for Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Mexican priest and revolutionary who is considered the father of Mexican independence.

The city began to grow rapidly after the discovery of silver deposits in the nearby hills in the early 1900s. A number of mines were established in the area, and by 1910 the town had a population of over 5,000. The silver boom came to an end during World War I, however, and many of the mines closed down.

The city's economy declined further during the Great Depression, but it began to recover after World War II. Today, Hidalgo is a small but thriving community with a diverse economy that includes agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and mining.

The city is located in southwestern New Mexico near the border with Mexico. It is about 60 miles (97 km) west of El Paso, Texas and 20 miles (32 km) east of Lordsburg, New Mexico. Interstate 10 passes through Hidalgo County just south of town; U.S. Route 70 also passes through town on its way east to Alamogordo; both highways provide access to Las Cruces approximately 100 miles (160 km) away via Interstate 25 South/U-S 70 East or Interstate 10 East/U-S 70 East respectively.. State Highway 905 leads south from town into Mexico; this highway provides access to Palomas approximately 30 miles (48 km) away as well as other points further south such as Chihuahua City which is about 400 miles (640 km) distant..
