The Cedarpines Park community was originally part of Rancho San Fernando, granted in 1825 by Governor Pío Pico to José Sepúlveda. In 1884, George W. Alexander subdivided and sold portions of Rancho San Fernando for development as new homes. The first house in what would become Cedarpines Park was built in 1886 on Moorpark Avenue by George W. Alexander and his wife Flora; it still stands today (although it has been extensively remodeled).
In 1907, Jules Stein acquired land comprising much of present-day Cedarpines Park from Jesse Lasky for $1 million (equivalent to $ in ). Stein developed this land into one of Hollywood's most luxurious neighborhoods: Steinway Village. Many celebrities lived there including Cecil B. DeMille, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Gloria Swanson and Rudolph Valentino among others; however, after World War I ended and Prohibition began in 1920, Stein's lavish lifestyle went out of style and many of his properties were foreclosed upon or sold at auction due to financial difficulties.
In 1923–24 Harry Chandler built a mansion at 9001 Laurel Canyon Boulevard which he called "The Castle" after purchasing it from Jules Stein for $2 million (equivalent to $ in ). Chandler also developed much of present-day Laurel Canyon Boulevard into a prestigious residential area which became known as "Chandler Heights". Other notable residents during this period include Roy Rogers and Gene Autry who purchased property along Laurel Canyon Boulevard near The Castle; they later opened their own movie theaters there which helped make Laurel Canyon one of Hollywood's most popular tourist destinations during this time period.
In 1949–50 Averell Harriman acquired land comprising much of present-day Cedarpines Park from Jules Stein for $10 million (equivalent to $ in ). Harriman developed this land into one of Los Angeles' most exclusive neighborhoods: Harriman Estates. Many celebrities live there including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.; however Harriman Estates declined sharply after Harriman died suddenly in 1965 leaving many unfinished projects behind including an extravagant home designed by architect Richard Neutra which remains unbuilt today (although parts have been used as private residences).
Since 2000s Cedarpines Park has seen significant redevelopment with new housing developments being constructed on formerly undeveloped or underdeveloped areas within the community; these developments have helped increase Cedarpines Park's population significantly over the past decade or so (from 10k+ prioritizes ago) reaching over 20k today making it one of LA's fastest growing communities overall!
