Irvine, CA

Irvine, California is a city located in Orange County, California. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 241,719. The Irvine Company developed Irvine from the early 1960s through land purchases and development. The original settlement was located on what is now known as Newport Boulevard west of Santiago Canyon Road. In 1965, Irvine became a city and elected its first mayor, John D. Waddell.

Today, Irvine is one of the most populous cities in Orange County and one of the most affluent cities in Southern California. The city's economy is based largely on high-tech industries such as semiconductor manufacturing and software development; defense contracting; biotechnology; telecommunications equipment; aerospace engineering; and computer systems design and services. Tourism also plays an important role in the local economy with visitors coming for shopping at local malls such as Newport Center or to enjoy world-renowned attractions like Disneyland Resort or Knott's Berry Farm amusement park.
