The city of Live Oak was incorporated on December 10th, 1951. Prior to its incorporation, it was known as "Oak Glen". The city's name comes from a grove of live oak trees that once stood in the area. The grove is now gone but the name remains.
Today, Live Oak is a suburban community with many single-family homes and some multi-unit dwellings. There are also a number of commercial establishments including restaurants, retail stores and banks.
