Manhattan Beach, CA

Manhattan Beach is a coastal city located in Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 89,098. The city is bordered by Torrance to the north and west, Hermosa Beach to the south and east, and El Segundo to the southeast.

Manhattan Beach is known for its mild weather year-round; it has an average temperature of 73 degrees Fahrenheit (23 degrees Celsius). The city also has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and cool winters. The city's economy is based on trade and tourism. Manhattan Beach is home to several high-end retail stores as well as restaurants that serve fresh seafood dishes.

The history of Manhattan Beach can be traced back to 1887 when land was purchased from Mission San Gabriel Arcángel for $10 per acre. In 1888, a small town called "Newport" was founded on this land by William Wrigley Jr., who named it after his home town in Wales. Newport quickly became popular with wealthy Angelenos because of its beautiful beaches and calm waters. In 1909, New York City developer Harry Chandler decided to build a large oceanfront estate in Newport called "The Biltmore." This estate became one of the most famous luxury resorts in America and helped make Newport into a major tourist destination.

In 1921, developers created an additional beach community called "South Bay" near what is now Torrance Boulevard and Slauson Avenue. South Bay quickly grew into a popular residential area because of its proximity to downtown Los Angeles as well as its many beaches (including Venice beach). In 1938, developers created another new beach community called " Manhattan Beach" near where PCH meets Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Manhattan Beach quickly became popular with middle-class families because of its affordable prices as well as its many amenities (including two public beaches). In 1984, developers created an additional beach community called " Marina del Rey" near where Marina Boulevard meets Jefferson Boulevard (Jefferson Boulevard later became part of PCH). Marina del Rey quickly became popular with celebrities because of its close proximity to Hollywood Hills as well as its many luxury hotels and restaurants
