Martinez, CA

Martinez is a city located in Contra Costa County, California. According to the 2010 census, the city has a population of 27,885. Martinez is located at 37°8′N 122°32′W. The city is adjacent to Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek, and lies about 20 miles east of San Francisco.

The first inhabitants of Martinez were the Ohlone people who lived there for thousands of years. In 1851 Martinez was part of the land grant given to Colonel William M. Smith by Governor Pio Pico. In 1868 Martinez became the county seat of Contra Costa County when it was separated from Alameda County. The City of Martinez was incorporated on March 4th, 1906.

Today, Martinez is an affluent suburban community with a diverse economy that includes high-tech companies and a number of small businesses. The city's main industries are health care and professional services, with major employers including Kaiser Permanente and Ortho Clinical Diagnostics. Martinez has a warm Mediterranean climate with cool breezes in winter and hot weather in summertime due to its proximity to the Bay Area moderating influence (the Golden Gate). Average temperatures range from 46 degrees Fahrenheit in January to 85 degrees Fahrenheit in July; however temperatures can vary widely depending on season or weather conditions specific to that day or time period
