Tollhouse, CA

Tollhouse is a small town located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, about an hour east of Sacramento. The town was founded in 1868 by George Toll, who built a tollhouse on the road between Auburn and Placerville. The town grew slowly at first, but began to prosper after the construction of the Gold Rush-era Auburn Road in 1849. Today, Tollhouse is home to about 1,200 residents and boasts a quaint downtown area with several antique stores and restaurants.
