Valley Village is a small town located in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 10,912 at the 2010 census. It is bordered by Sherman Oaks to the north, North Hollywood to the east, Encino to the south and west, and Tarzana to the northwest.

The town was founded in 1926 by J. Paul Getty and his wife Gertrude Vanderbilt as a planned community designed by architect Clarence Stein. The Gettys named their new development after their home valley in England, Vale of White Horse. The original 1,600 lots were sold for $100 each; today those same lots would be worth millions of dollars due to gentrification and proximity to Hollywood.

Today Valley Village is known for its affluent residents and luxury homes; it has been called "Hollywood's version of Beverly Hills." Many celebrities live in Valley Village including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Tobey Maguire and Owen Wilson. In addition to its celebrity residents, Valley Village is also home to many high-powered executives such as Jeffrey Katzenberg (former CEO of DreamWorks Animation), Ron Burkle (owner of supermarket chain Yucaipa Companies), David Geffen (founder of Asylum Records) and Haim Saban (owner of Saban Entertainment).

The median household income in Valley Village was $135,000 in 2009 according to statistics from The Daily Review newspaper; this compares favorably with other wealthy enclaves such as Beverly Hills ($200K+) or Bel Air ($250K+). In addition to its high incomes, Valley Village enjoys a low crime rate; there were only four murders committed within city limits between 2000-2009 according to The Daily Review newspaper.

Despite its affluent nature however, Valley Village remains affordable compared with other areas of Los Angeles County such as Westwood or Brentwood which have median household incomes above $300K+. This affordability is attributable in part to strict zoning regulations which limit the number of high-rise buildings allowed within city limits; furthermore most homes are owner-occupied rather than rented out which keeps housing costs down.

Valley Village is served by several public schools including: Woodland Hills High School (which serves students from Sherman Oaks), North Hollywood High School (which serves students from North Hollywood), Van Nuys High School (which serves students from Van Nuys) and Tarzana High School (which serves students from Tarzana). There are also several private schools available including: Calabasas Christian Schools (serving grades K-8), Crossroads Christian Academy (serving grades K-12) and St John Bosco Preparatory School (serving grades Pre-K through 12th grade).
