It is part of the Melbourne- Titusville- Palm Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cape Canaveral is home to Kennedy Space Center and several other NASA facilities. The city has been nicknamed "The Gateway to Space" because it has been the launch site for many American space programs including Apollo 11 and Skylab. Cape Canaveral also served as a launch site for some Russian space programs including Soyuz TM-7 and Progress M-27M.
