Hamilton is a city located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 26,872. Hamilton is located in the Chicago metropolitan area and is part of the Chicagoland area.

Hamilton was founded in 1836 and was originally called Westville. The city was renamed Hamilton for General James K. Hamilton, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as Secretary of Treasury under Ulysses S. Grant. Hamilton is home to two universities: DePaul University and Northern Illinois University- Chicago.
