Newton, IA

Newton is a small town located in Newton County, Iowa. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Newton is home to the Newton County Fairgrounds and the Newton County Historical Museum.

The first settlers in Newton arrived in 1855. The town was founded on land that had been donated by John C. Fremont. The town's name was chosen because it was near a large body of water called "Newt's Pond".

Newton is located in the heart of Iowa's agricultural region and has been known for its corn, soybeans, and livestock since its founding. Today, the town is also known for its real estate industry. There are several residential subdivisions and commercial properties located within the town limits. The most notable commercial property is the Newton Community Hospital which was built in 1978 and has since expanded to include an emergency room, surgery center, imaging center, pharmacy, physical therapy department, and multiple outpatient clinics.
