Dedham, MA

Dedham is a town in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 21,521 at the 2010 census. Dedham is located about 20 miles west of Boston and about 10 miles south of Salem.

The town was first settled in 1630 as part of the settlement of Woburn by Puritans from England. The area now known as Dedham was then part of the town of Hingham. In 1636, Dedham separated from Hingham and became an independent town. The first recorded sale of land in what would become Dedham occurred on July 12, 1636 when John Leverett sold land to James Prudden for £40 sterling.

Dedham's economy has traditionally been based on agriculture and manufacturing; however, in recent years it has developed a strong technology sector with companies such as Google and Facebook having corporate headquarters in Dedham or nearby Cambridge.

Today, Dedham is home to many well-known companies including Raytheon Co., General Electric Co., and Tufts University which has its main campus in the neighboring city of Somerville.
