West Newbury, MA

West Newbury is a town located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 10,814. The town is home to the West Newbury School District and several colleges and universities including Brandeis University and Middlesex Community College.

The history of West Newbury can be traced back to 1660 when Reverend John Eliot founded a settlement on what is now known as Eliot Street. The area was first settled by Puritans who were fleeing religious persecution in England. In 1727, West Newbury was incorporated as a separate town from Reading. Throughout its history, West Newbury has been an agricultural community with significant manufacturing activity in the early days of the Industrial Revolution. Today, the town is home to many businesses and organizations including two hospitals (Saint Joseph's Hospital and South Middlesex Hospital), two banks (TD Bank and First National Bank), three supermarkets (Safeway, Shaw's/Star Market, Stop & Shop), two movie theaters (Cinemark Theaters), three churches (First Congregational Church of West Newbury; Saint John's Episcopal Church; Trinity Reformed Church) and one public library ( West Newbury Public Library).
