Brandon, MS

Brandon is a city located in Rankin County, Mississippi. The population was 16,569 at the 2010 census. Brandon is the county seat of Rankin County.

The city of Brandon was founded in 1871 and named for General James B. Brandon, a Union general during the American Civil War. The city's economy is based on agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism.

Brandon is home to several businesses including Tyson Foods Inc., J&J Snack Foods LLC., and Southern Cotton Mills Incorporated. In addition to these businesses, Brandon is also home to Rankin-Bradley University which has a campus located within the city limits. The university has a total enrollment of over 5,000 students and offers degrees in business administration, education, engineering technology, health sciences, law enforcement/security studies and nursing/midwifery. There are also several churches located within the city limits including First Baptist Church of Brandon (founded in 1871), Greater Grace Temple (founded in 1906), Emmanuel Baptist Church (founded in 1912), and New Hope Missionary Baptist Church (founded in 1926).
