Oran, MO

Oran is a city located in Jackson County, Missouri. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jackson County.

The city of Oran was founded in 1836 and named for the French port of Oran. The first post office opened in 1837. The city's economy was based largely on agriculture until the early 20th century, when it began to develop as a center for commercial and industrial activity. In recent years, Oran has experienced significant growth as a result of its proximity to Kansas City and its strong job market.

Real estate in Oran is dominated by single-family homes and townhomes, with a small number of apartments and condominiums also available. There are several shopping districts within the city limits, including an upscale section near downtown known as "The Village." Public transportation is available via buses and trains that serve nearby Kansas City.
