Flemington is a township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 10,868,[10] reflecting an increase of 1,527 (+14.4%) from the 9,913 counted in the 2000 Census.[19]

Flemington was formed as a result of an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 21, 1894. The township was named for General James Flemming (1792-1868), who served as Governor of New Jersey from 1838 to 1840 and as a U.S. Senator from 1851 to 1861.[20][21] Flemington is located in eastern Hunterdon County at (40.760912,-74.870853).[22]

According to the United States Census Bureau, Flemington has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13 km2), all land.[23]

The township borders East Amwell Township and Franklin Township in Hunterdon County; Lebanon Township and Raritan Township in Somerset County; and Hopewell Township in Mercer County. Interstate 78 passes through Flemington just east of its center on its way from Newark to Trenton.[24][25][26][27]
