Marlton is a township in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 10,898,[10] reflecting an increase of 979 (+5.4%) from the 10,362 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 1,711 (+12.2%) from the 9,824 counted in the 1990 Census.[19]

The township was formed on March 15, 1894 as part of an effort to consolidate several smaller communities near each other into a single municipality. The town was named for John Marlborough (1670-1752), 1st duke of Marlborough and general during the War of Spanish Succession.[20][21]

According to the United States Census Bureau, Marlton has a total area of 5.9 square miles (14 km2), including 5.8 square miles (14 km2) of land and 0.1 square mile (0.3 km2) of water (0.30%).[1]

The township borders Bass River Township to the north; Mount Holly Township to the east; Florence Township and Westampton Township to the south; and Evesham Township and Hamilton Township to the west.[22]
