Westville, NJ

Westville is a small town located in Morris County, New Jersey. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Morristown, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The town was founded in 1798 by Nicholas Longworth and named for his home town of Westville, Warwickshire, England. The first settler in what would become Westville was John Haines who built a cabin on the banks of the Mullica River in 1799. By 1810 there were twenty-one homes and businesses in the community.

In 1812, Westville became an incorporated municipality with a population of about 200 people. The first mayor was William Biddle and the first business was a blacksmith shop operated by James Browning. In 1814, Westville had its own schoolhouse which served as both a church and public school until 1830 when it burned down.

During the American Civil War (1861-1865), many residents enlisted in either the Union or Confederate armies and as a result there were few civilian casualties but much destruction to property including businesses and homes. After the war ended, reconstruction began immediately with new roads being constructed, bridges being rebuilt and schools being rebuilt or replaced altogether including Westville's second school which opened in 1865 with thirty-six students enrolled from grades one through eight.

In 1892, electric lights were installed throughout town providing much needed illumination at night time; this change also led to an increase in crime as criminals became more aware of potential victims who now had no choice but to walk around without lighting during nighttime hours. However despite these challenges over time Westville has continued to grow steadily thanks largely to its location within close proximity to major transportation hubs such as Newark Airport (which is just minutes away) and Trenton International Airport (which is just over an hour away). As a result today Westville has a thriving commercial district along Route 10 featuring many well known businesses such as Dunkin' Donuts®, Subway®, CVS Pharmacy® and Bank of America® among others; additionally there are numerous restaurants including Applebee's®, Chili's Grill & Bar®, Pizzeria Uno™and TGI Friday's™ catering to all tastes and budgets alike making it easy for residents and visitors alike to find what they're looking for whether it be food or entertainment..
