Mastic is a town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 10,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City metropolitan area.
The town of Mastic was first settled around 1790 by a group of Dutch farmers from Gravesend on Long Island. They named their settlement "Mattschouwburg" after one of their leaders, Matthys Schouwburgh. The name was Anglicized to " Mastic" in 1811.
In 1825, Mastic became the county seat of Nassau County and remained so until 1898 when it was replaced by Hempstead Village. In 1906, the town annexed part of the hamlet of Oyster Bay and in 1913 it annexed another section from Oyster Bay as well as parts from Farmingdale and Glen Cove to form its present boundaries.
Mastic is located at 40°50′N 73°02′W / 40.8019°N 73.0389°W / 40.8019; -73.0389 (40.801844,-73.041056). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land except for a small portion along Great South Bay which is water。
