Wilmington, NC

Wilmington, North Carolina is a city located on the Cape Fear River in the southeastern corner of North Carolina. The city has a population of approximately 120,000 and is the largest city in New Hanover County. Wilmington was founded in 1792 by Colonel William Barton and was named for Lord Wilmington, then British Secretary of State for America. The city became an important port for trade with Europe and Africa and played an important role in the American Revolution.

Today, Wilmington is a major commercial center with a diversified economy that includes manufacturing, health care, financial services, and tourism. The city is home to several large corporations including DuPont, Jabil Circuit Inc., Owens- Illinois Inc., Biogen Idec Inc., and Prudential Financial Inc. Wilmington also has a strong arts community with numerous theaters and museums.
