Downingtown is a borough in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,527 at the 2010 census. Downingtown is located at 40°5′N 75°34′W / 40.083°N 75.550°W / 40.083; -75.550 (40.084167, -75.737778).
The borough of Downingtown was incorporated on February 10, 1873 from portions of the townships of West Chester and East Bradford and the boroughs of Malvern and Newtown Square in Chester County.[3] The town was named for John Downing, a signer of the Declaration of Independence who served as Governor-General of British North America.[4]
Downingtown is located in southeastern Chester County along PA Route 611 (Main Street) and PA Route 61 ( Easton Road). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8 km2), all land.[1]
