South Park, Pennsylvania is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 8,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.
The borough was founded in 1812 and named for its location south of Pittsburgh. The town grew rapidly as a result of the construction of the Monongahela River Railroad in 1856 and became an industrial center due to its proximity to steel mills and other heavy industry. However, by the early 21st century, many of these industries had closed down or moved away, leaving South Park with a largely residential character.
Today, South Park is home to many well-known businesses including PNC Financial Services (formerly National City Bank), Steelcase Inc., and Hershey Foods Corporation's Chocolate World store. Additionally, several universities are located within the borough including Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Duquesne University (DU), Point Park University (PPU), and Robert Morris University (RMU).
