Sterling is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,868 at the 2010 census. Sterling is located at 40°5′41″N 79°1′27″W / 40.0917°N 79.0375°W / 40.0917; -79.0375 (40.095087, -79.038333).

The borough of Sterling was incorporated on March 10, 1892 from parts of the townships of East McKeesport and West McKeesport and the boroughs of Homestead and North Homestead in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The town was named for John Sterling who donated land for the original town site and served as its first mayor. The town's early economy was based on coal mining and steel production but by the early 21st century it had transitioned to a service economy with a significant presence in health care, education and technology services

Today Sterling is home to many businesses including: FedEx Office; First National Bank; KPMG LLP; PNC Financial Services Group; Steelcase Inc.; Stryker Corporation; 3M Company

The borough has an extensive public library system that includes branches in each of its four neighborhoods: Brookline- East McKeesport Library (Brookline); East McKeesport Library ( East McKeesport); North Homestead Library (North Homestead); South Hills Library (South Hills)

The borough also has two recreation centers: Brookline Recreation Center (Brookline) and East McKeesport Recreation Center ( East McKeesport). There are also several parks including Brookside Park (Brookline), East Park ( East McKeesport), North Park(North Homestead), South Park(South Hills)

and Veterans Memorial Park which includes a playground, basketball courts, tennis courts as well as a memorial to local veterans
