Perrin is a small town located in the Hill Country of Central Texas. The population of Perrin was just over 10,000 as of the 2010 census. The town is situated in Williamson County and is bordered by Blanco to the north, Mason to the east, and Burnet to the south.
The history of Perrin can be traced back to 1837 when General Edward Burleson established a trading post on the banks of the Colorado River. In 1841, James W. Fannin established a settlement on the site that would later become known as Perrinville. The town began to grow rapidly in 1870 when it was designated as the county seat for Williamson County. By 1890, Perrin had reached its peak population of 2,500 residents. However, due to economic conditions following World War I and II, Perrin began to decline rapidly and by 1970 only 1,500 people remained living in the town.
Today, Perrin is experiencing a resurgence thanks in part to its location within close proximity to several popular tourist destinations including Blanco Canyon National Preserve and Lake Buchanan reservoir. As a result of this growth, new businesses have begun opening up including restaurants and retail stores. Additionally, many homes that were once abandoned have been renovated and are now being used as primary residences by families who appreciate its peaceful atmosphere and rural setting.
