Rockwood, TX

Rockwood is a small town located in Williamson County, Texas. The population of Rockwood was 2,868 as of the 2010 census. Rockwood is known for its beautiful scenery and historical significance. The town was founded in 1887 by J.M. and Lizzie ( Robertson) Hartley, who named it after their home town in Scotland.

The history of Rockwood can be traced back to the early 1800s when pioneers began to move into the area. In 1887, J.M. and Lizzie ( Robertson) Hartley founded the town after moving from Scotland. At first, the Hartleys only had a few families living in Rockwood, but as the community grew they were able to purchase more land and add businesses such as a general store and a blacksmith shop. Today, Rockwood is still a small town with many historic buildings that remain standing today including the old post office which was built in 1907 and now houses an antique store called The Old Post Office Emporium; the original school building which still stands; and several homes that date back to the late 1800s including one home that is said to have been built by Jethro Kirtland himself!

One of the main attractions of Rockwood is its natural beauty which includes rolling hills covered in oak trees, creeks running through scenic valleys, and plenty of open space for hiking or biking! In addition to its natural beauty, Rockwood also has plenty of history including several notable people who have lived or worked here including author Harper Lee who wrote her Pulitzer Prize winning novel To Kill A Mockingbird while living in nearby Monroeville; country music legend Willie Nelson who purchased property near Rockwood in 1978; actor Tom Hanks who filmed parts of his movie Cast Away on location near Rockwood; author John Grisham who lives just outside of town; rock musician Ted Nugent whose family has owned property near Rockwood for generations; comedian Jerry Seinfeld lived briefly near Rockwood before moving away; actor Matthew McConaughey grew up just outside of town before making his Hollywood debut at age 19 starring in Dallas Buyers Club!
