White Oak, TX

White Oak is a city located in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 12,812 at the 2010 census. White Oak is part of the Austin– Round Rock metropolitan area.

The city was founded in 1887 by J.M. and A.J. Roundtree as a cotton gin and lumber town on the banks of the Colorado River near present-day Round Rock Lake; it was named for White Oak trees that grew abundantly in the area. In 1907, White Oak became an incorporated city with a population of 1,500 people; it experienced rapid growth thereafter due to its location just outside Austin and its proximity to both San Antonio and Houston. By 1950, White Oak had a population of 10,000 people and boasted several businesses including two banks (the first bank west of Dallas), two movie theaters (the first theater west of Fort Worth), three grocery stores, four churches (including one African American church), three schools (including one high school), two newspapers (the first newspaper west of Dallas), and one radio station (KGSR).

In recent years, White Oak has experienced significant economic decline as a result of suburbanization and competition from larger cities such as Austin and Round Rock; however, there are still several businesses operating in the city including a hospital, an ice cream shop/café chain called Scoops Ahoy!, an automotive dealership called B&B Motorsports Inc., two funeral homes, two beauty salons/spas called Salon de Vie & Spa at Home & Salon de Vie at The Shops at Green Hills Mall respectively, two restaurants called China Buffet & Wok N' Roll Express LLC., La Cantina Mexican Grill LLC., Papa John's Pizza LLC., Subway Sandwich Shop LLC., T-Rex Steakhouse LLP., Two Step Dance Studio LLC., True Value Hardware Incorporated Ltd., UPS Store #2748 LP., Walgreens #9191 LP., Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers LP./Pizza Hut Express LLC./Taco Bell #5693 LP./Domino's Pizza #4695 LP./and an ice cream parlor called Sweet Dreams Ice Cream Parlor which opened in December 2016."

White Oak is located at 30°36′N 97°10′W / 30.6317°N 97.1789°W / 30.6317; -97.1789 (30th Street). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 4 square miles (10 km² ), all land .

As of the census[2]of 2000 , there were 11,711 people residing in the city proper with an estimated population density o f 2147 inhabitants per square mile . There were 3,,819 housing units at an average density o f 673 per square mile . The racial makeup o f
