Fort Myer is a census-designated place (CDP) in Arlington County, Virginia, United States. The population was 10,521 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Arlington County and includes parts of Fort Myer Park and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

The land that now comprises Fort Myer was originally part of a tract granted to George Washington in 1778 by the General Assembly of Virginia. In 1811, Major General Andrew Jackson purchased most of what is now Fort Myer from Washington's heirs for $40,000. He named it after Brigadier General Henry Knox who had served under him during the American Revolutionary War. Construction on Fort Myer began in 1814 and it was completed in 1819 at a cost of $250,000. The fort was initially used as a training ground for soldiers preparing for combat against British forces during the War of 1812.

In 1861, Confederate troops took control of Fort Myer during the American Civil War and used it as a base for operations in northern Virginia and Maryland. After Union forces captured Richmond in 1865, Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House near Petersburg, Virginia on April 9th; this ended hostilities in the war.

In 1909, Congress authorized construction of an airfield adjacent to Fort Myer that would become known as Andrews Field; construction began that year and was completed in 1912. During World War II, Andrews Field served as one of three main military airfields in North America supporting Allied operations throughout Europe and Asia; it also played an important role in Operation Overlord—the invasion of Normandy which led to Nazi Germany's defeat during World War II.

Today, much of what is now Fort Myer Park remains undeveloped; however, several buildings within the park have been converted into apartments or condominiums including The Lodge at FortMyer (formerly known as "The Officers' Quarters"), The Towers at FtMyer (formerly known as "The Magazine"), The Cottage at FtMyer (formerly known as "The Kitchen"), Hillcrest Manor (formerly known as "The Bachelor Officers Quarters"), Foxcroft Manor (formerly known as "The Nurses' Quarters") and Woodlands Village Apartments (formerly known as "Barracks A").
